How JTCF Is Supporting the Elderly in Essex

At the heart of the Joseph Toomey Charitable Foundation (JTCF) lies a simple but powerful belief: that dignity, warmth, and safety should never be out of reach, especially for our elderly neighbours.

The Foundation was established in 2020 by Michael John Toomey, a man who built his life and career around the principle that "there isn't anything you can't do - work at it, and you will achieve it." That same philosophy drove him to fulfil a deeply personal dream: to give back to the local community in a way that truly mattered.

Named in memory of his father, Joseph Toomey, the Foundation was created through a remarkable act of generosity. Michael transferred his shareholding in MJT Securities Limited directly to the Foundation, giving it the financial strength to grow and make a real difference from day one.

Why the Work Matters

For many older residents across Essex, their homes can slowly become a source of stress and even danger. From broken boilers and leaky roofs to unsafe stairs or draughty doors, these seemingly minor issues can have a considerable impact on daily life, independence, and wellbeing, especially when mobility, finances, or support networks are limited.

JTCF was created to respond to those needs with practical, discreet, and compassionate support, working directly with individuals or in partnership with organisations like Citizens Advice Chelmsford to identify and assist those who need it most.

Partnering for Greater Reach: JTCF x SAVS

We're proud to share that JTCF is now working in partnership with SAVS (Southend Association of Voluntary Services). SAVS are a respected organisation at the heart of community and voluntary work in Southend and the wider Essex area.

This exciting collaboration strengthens our ability to provide elderly care to those most in need by connecting us with local groups, services, and volunteers that are already making a real difference.

With SAVS' on-the-ground insight and strong community network, we'll be better placed to deliver practical, meaningful support to older people who may otherwise go unnoticed, helping them feel safer, more connected, and more secure in their own homes.
